Setting defibrillator access times

Your defibrillator can save more lives if the Ambulance Services knows when it’s available to use. The Circuit lets you set accessibility times, so the Ambulance Services can clearly see when people can get access to the defibrillator you look after. Here we’ll tell you how to set you device’s accessibility times, depending on whether it’s in a school, a sports club or a business.

Here’s a quick guide to get you started

  1. Select the days and times your defibrillator is accessible
  2. Set the date ranges the defibrillator is accessible between
  3. Review to make sure the dates and times are correct
  4. Register your defibrillator

Setting access times for a school

  • Select the days of the week and times that the school defibrillator can be accessed. For example, this may be only when the school office is open or when staff are on site.
  • You can set access times for date ranges. To do this, select the first and last day of the range and apply ‘accessible’ or ‘inaccessible’ to all. Don’t forget to set it as ‘inaccessible’ for school holidays, half terms, Bank Holidays and any other days the school may be closed.
  • You can set access times for individual days if you have any one-off occasions your defibrillator may be inaccessible.
  • Review your entry and make any changes if necessary.
  • When you’re happy all the times and dates are set as you want them, register your defibrillator.

Setting access times for a sports club

  • Sports clubs may have different access times at different times of the year, so it’s important to let the Ambulance Services know when people can get to the defibrillator you look after. Start by setting the time the defibrillator will be accessible each day.
  • You can input times for individual days if they vary, or you can copy them across several days. To set access times for a date range, select the first and last day of the period and apply ‘accessible’ or ‘inaccessible’ to all. (You will be notified by email before the end of the timeframe you have set, asking you to update the access times for the next period.)
  • Review your entry and make any changes if necessary.
  • When you’re happy all the times and dates are set as you want them, register your defibrillator.

Setting access times for an office

  • There may be times when your defibrillator can’t be accessed, for example, if it’s out of office hours. It’s important to let the Ambulance Services know this. Start by setting the time the defibrillator will be accessible each day. This may be your office opening hours.
  • Copy these times over to the days the office is open, for example, Mondays to Fridays.
  • Make sure that on any days the office is closed, such as weekends, your defibrillator is set as ‘inaccessible’. You may want to also do this for any public holidays, like Bank Holidays or Christmas holidays if the office is closed.
  • If the office is open for a certain time of day, you can add another period of time to the set days.
  • You’ll have the option of applying these times and days to the next 365 days.
  • Review your entry and make any changes if necessary.
  • When you’re happy all the times and dates are set as you want them, register your defibrillator.
